Tonight at the BAFTAs
February 8th, 2009 by Editors
The UK’s major film and television awards took place this evening. We confess that we didn’t watch. (Actually your editors were calling each other on Skype at the time.) However, Joe Gordon has been his usual reliable self. Here are the highlights:
- Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger (Dark Knight)
- Best Animated Film: WALL-E
- Best Short Animation: Wallace & Gromit – A Matter of Loaf & Death
- Fellow of the Academy: Terry Gilliam

Actually, only the film awards were announced today. The television awards are scheduled for Sunday 26 April.
Also, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button won three minor-category BAFTAs; for Production Design, Make Up & Hair, and Special Visual Effects. Button lost in many other categories in which it had been nominated (including Best Film, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Music, Cinematography, and Editing — losing to Slumdog Millionaire in each of these categories.)
