FAAn Awards
March 16th, 2009 by Editors
Corflu, the annual fanzine convention, took place at the weekend, and saw the announcement of the 2009 Fanzine Activity Achievement Awards. Via Mike Glyer we have the list of winners:
- Best Fanzine: eI, edited by Earl Kemp
- Best Fan Writer: Bruce Gillespie
- Best Fan Artist: Dan Steffan
- Best Letterhack: Lloyd Penney
- Best Online Fanac Site: eFanzines.com
Given that we are now approaching one of those times of year when people will claim that the Hugos are meaningless because too few people participate, we note that the total number of ballots cast in the FAAn awards was 36.

Similarly we are in the midst of the annual campaign to increase Hugo participation by minimizing or removing any voting requirements.
In contrast to the Hugos, the FAAn Awards require no membership, charge no fee, make ballots freely available online and permit e-mail voting. And yet they received only 36 ballots.
The number of ballots may be small, but they are from folks who supposedly are intimately familiar with the field. Hmm… That sounds rather kinky, doesn’t it?
