Philip K Dick Award
April 11th, 2009 by Editors
Jeff VanderMeer reports that this year’s winner of the Philip K Dick Award is Terminal Mind by David Walton (Meadowhawk Press).
The PKD administrators are normally very good about sending us announcements, but we haven’t had anything official yet. Kevin was busy running Match Game last night so wasn’t able to attend the ceremony. Many thanks to Jeff for getting us the result, and congratulations to David.
Update: Apparently a tie with Adam-Troy Castro’s, Emissaries for the Dead, as per the video linked to below. Still nothing official.
Update 2: Email from Kevin confirms the tie from the convention newsletter.

On David Walton’s website: http://davidwaltonfiction.wordpress.com/ he’s reporting that he is sharing the award with Adam-Troy Castro’s book, Emissaries for the Dead and that there was no Special Citation.
Yes. I checked the video of the Awards presentation and got really confused. They seemed to mention a Special Citation in the beginning but then announced a tie between Terminal Mind and Emissaries for the Dead and made a joke (which I didn´t get) at the end.
OK, I’ve found a video of the awards ceremony on Norwescon’s Livejournal: http://community.livejournal.com/norwescon/186690.html
It was indeed a tie.
Thanks folks. I’ll try to get Kevin to sniff out more information.
I’ve updated the Philip K. Dick Award site on behalf of the administrators to announce the winners. It was a tie between EMISSARIES FROM THE DEAD by Adam-Troy Castro (Eos Books) and TERMINAL MIND by David Walton (Meadowhawk Press). No special citation was given.
Thanks for clearing that up, Kathryn. Sorry if we caused any confusion.
We got a phone call asking, since our home phone is published as contact info. Gordon went to Norwescon & we went to the Adirondacks for the kids’ Easter vacation. We’re home now.
