An (almost) First for Chabon
February 22nd, 2008 by Editors
Over at GalleyCat Ron Hogan notes that Michael Chabon has become the first writer ever to be nominated for an Edgar and a Nebula for the same book.
Update: Or not. As per the comments, Jeff Ford’s The Girl in the Glass did the same thing last year (and won the Edgar).
Er … no.
Jeffrey Ford for THE GIRL IN THE GLASS, and it won an Edgar too.
That is great. Congrats.
This is pretty funny. When Girl in the Glass did this last year, no one gave a shit. It was chopped liver. Now that Chabon does it, it’s history making. LOL! Still, I hope Yiddish Policeman’s Union wins. It was one of my favorite books of the year. Thanks, Mike.
I am, of course, hugely embarrassed about this. The Girl in the Glass was one of my favorite books from 2006. I really ought to have know that. Sorry Jeff.
Cheryl: Really, no biggie. I’m not upset about it at all, and I don’t think you should have known more than anyone else. I posted because I think the scenario really points out an interesting aspect of the world of publishing. That was my only reason. Besides, the distinction is rather obscure, and you know I love you anyway.
I, too, am mortified by my oversight. Sorry, Mr. Ford!
Ron: No sweat. All is well.
Jeff, us journos have a responsibility to get the news right. As it happens, I have a Google watch on “nebula award”, and I have already found one person passing on the story without correction. The good news is that every time I find such a person I create another online plug for your fine book.
