Data Sources and Validation

A common problem with any online data source is maintaining accuracy. We hope to rely heavily on maintaining a good relationship with the people who actually run the various awards, and we accept what they tell us as official. However, while we are still building up the data here, we are reliant to a certain extent on information from people not currently connected with awards who perhaps have more time to get in touch with us than the award administrators. Also in some cases we don’t know who the award administrators are.

To try to avoid confusion we are adding a “data sources” section to each award page. If that section does not yet exist you can assume that our data is derived from the award’s official web page as of August 22, 2007, which is when we launched. If we have received a communication from an award administrator we will add a note to that effect. Updates supplied by individuals not connected with awards will also be noted and dated.

Finally we note that award rules can and do change year by year. While we make every effort to keep up with such changes, we may miss some. In all cases what is written on an award’s official web site should be the final word regarding how an award works.

If you think any of our award descriptions our wrong, please contact us to let us know.
